<p>Following a seminar I attended on Tuesday, please find below an update on London 2012 and the hotel accommodation situation.</p>
<p>Licenses are still required for events of 500+ delegates taking place between May and October 2012.  The deadline for license application is 31st March 2012.  We are lobbying UK Government for a change in the rules.  We feel that conferences will not generally create security or transportation issues to impact traffic or security and hence warrant a licensing arrangement.</p>
<p>Olympic dates are:-</p>
<p>Olympic Games	27th July – 12th August 2012</p>
<p>Paralympics		29th August – 9th September 2012</p>
<p>Demand on London Bedstock (rooms per night)<br />
Total London Hotel Bedrooms	120,000<br />
LOCOG (Organisers)			58,000 *<br />
Leisure Demand			50,000<br />
Open Market				12,000</p>
<p>* It is expected that LOCOG will increase their demand</p>
<p>Main Sponsors<br />
Main sponsors will have right of veto in their main hotel to prevent competitors adopting guerrilla marketing tactics.</p>
<p>Post Olympic Hangover<br />
Historically host cities have wide open availability immediately after ‘The Games’ close.  This could be a good opportunity for organisers to make cost savings for events and accommodation in London in early autumn.</p>
<p>Are you or your teams in London on business during the Olympics?<br />
Journey times will be significantly higher as security and congestion will increase.  Rush hour will also extend at the start and end of the day.  Allow additional time for moving about the capital.</p>
<p>On the positive side!!<br />
London will be looking better than ever!  Hotels and venues will be at their very best and new and exciting venues will be coming online as will approximately 20,000 new hotel beds.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Brief2Event received and venue request from a potential new client via the website <a title="www.conference-venues-in.com" href="http://www.conference-venues-in.com/" target="_blank">http://www.conference-venues-in.com/</a>.  The client booker had a potential requirement for a conference venue in <a title="conference-venues-in.com/venues/Midlands/Birmingham/" href="http://conference-venues-in.com/venues/Midlands/Birmingham/" target="_blank">Birmingham</a> for 30 delegates for a day meeting event.  The client brief for the event required a quick turnaround so the 8 hour response service offered by <a title="Brief2Event" href="http://www.brief2event.com" target="_blank">Brief2Event</a> was ideal.</p>
<p>In fact, after the brief was given, he could log on to the <a title="brief2event.com" href="http://www.brief2event.com" target="_blank">Brief2Event.com</a> site and view his details; the event brief; the Brief2Event.com suggested venues and their status.  The event for the brief was with all venues within 30 minutes and potential venue options began responding within 45 minutes – all traceable online.</p>
<p>The complete Venue Option document was with the client within 6 hours and site visits confirmed later that day at 5 of the 7 venues for the following day.  The client met Brief2Event Director Guy Mason in Birmingham to view the properties the following day.</p>
<p>The venues (Hilton Birmingham Metropole; Crowne Plaza NEC; Radisson Blu; Malmaison Birmingham and IET’s venue <a href="http://conference-venues-in.com/factsheet/Austin-Court-Birmingham/96/">Austin Court</a>) were then short listed to Austin Court or Radisson Blu and we are waiting for the final decision.</p>
<p>The client commented that the service and attention to detail received from Brief2Event were second to none and would be recommending Brief2Event to other organisers within his company.</p>
